5 Principles of Montessori

Check Out Our Calm Learning Environment!

Philosophy Rooted in Respect for God's Design

At Ambassador Kids Montessori in Fort Lauderdale, we believe Dr. Maria Montessori understood something profound: that children are born with an innate desire to learn, and that our role as educators is to honor that design, God's design. We guide with these five core principles:

#1 Respect for the Child:

Dr. Montessori believed children should be respected as capable individuals, not miniatures of adults to be molded. This mirrors a biblical truth: each child is made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27), with their own unique gifts and pace.

In our classroom, we:

--Allow your child to make meaningful choices within a prepared environment

--Observe their natural interests and follow their lead

--Interrupt their concentration only when necessary

--Trust their ability to solve problems and learn from mistakes

This isn't permissiveness—it's respect. We set loving boundaries while honoring your child's dignity as a person God created.

#2 Prepared Environment

Montessori didn't invent this principle—she observed it. Children learn best in spaces thoughtfully designed for their needs, filled with beautiful materials they can touch and explore.

Our classroom is:

--Calm and orderly (not chaotic or overstimulating)

--Scaled to child size (low shelves, child-height tables, accessible materials)

--Filled with real, purposeful work (not plastic toys)

--Organized by the five learning areas

#3 Sensitive Period

Montessori discovered that children go through windows of heightened readiness to learn specific skills—language, order, movement, sensory refinement. These aren't accidents; they're built into how God designed child development.

Our role is to:

--Observe your child carefully to recognize their sensitive periods

--Provide exactly the right materials and guidance at exactly the right moment

--Trust that your child will absorb language, math, and skills naturally when they're ready (not forced) Every child is on their own indivdual track and pace. If they want to learn Geometry that day, I will show them the materials and how to use it

#4 Autonomy & Independence

'Help me do it myself' is the Montessori motto. We believe children are designed to be competent, capable, and independent—and that building these qualities honors their Creator.

At Ambassador Kids Montessori, your child learns to:

--Pour their own water, tie their own shoes, wash their own hands

--Make choices about their work

--Problem-solve with peers

--Build real competence and confidence

#5 The Absorbent Mind

Young children don't learn like adults. They absorb information from the world around them through all their senses, almost effortlessly. Montessori called this 'the absorbent mind.'

This means:

--Your child learns through doing, not just hearing

--Hands-on exploration builds neural pathways that lectures never will

--The environment is their teacher (we facilitate, not dominate)

--Repetition is natural, your child will return to activities as many times as they need

We trust this process because it's how God wired the young brain.

WHY MONTESSORI WORKS FOR YOUR CHILD

Why Christian Montessori: Benefits for Preschoolers in South Florida

#1: We’re a Family!

Parents in Fort Lauderdale, Plantation, Dania, Davie, and Lauderhill are choosing Montessori because research shows real developmental outcomes. Here's what your child gains:

#2: Your Child Becomes Confident & Independent

Self-directed learning builds intrinsic motivation. Your child develops a 'can-do' spirit because they're experiencing real competence, not just hearing praise.

#3: Your Child Loves Learning (Not Tests)

When children choose their work and experience success on their own terms, they develop genuine curiosity and joy in learning, not anxiety about performance

#4: Your Child Develops Social & Emotional Skills

In a small group (max 5 children), your child learns conflict resolution, empathy, and community. We guide them through real peer relationships, not worksheets

#5: Your Child is Genuinely Ready for Kindergarten

Individualized assessment and instruction across all development areas—social, emotional, cognitive, language, physical, means your child arrives at kindergarten confident, prepared, and ready.

#6: Your Child Grows in Respect: For Self, Others, and God's Creation

Montessori isn't just academic. We cultivate respect, for the child's own dignity, for peers, for the environment, and for our Creator. This is spiritual formation alongside intellectual development.

#7: Most of our events are free!

To extend our learning we go on several field trips each year, and you get to join your child on them. We’ve gone to places like: the Zoo, Police Station, Fire Station, Pizza Store, Grocery Store, Taekwondo, Flippos, A Nursery, Pumpkin Patch, and more! We’ll also celebrate special occasions with parties for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, and your child’s birthday!

#8: Your child gets a shirt and portfolio!

Your child will receive a free t-shirt for that school year to wear on Spirit Days and field trips. We also save some of your child’s artwork for a special portfolio you get at graduation.

#9: We help you preserve memories!

We offer you the opportunity to enrich your preschool experience with school pictures, class pictures, cap ‘n gown pictures, and an end-of-the-year video.

#10: We celebrate Moving Up!

Bring your entire family to our yearly Moving Up, where we celebrate your child's accomplishments in a big way! It'll be a night to remember! Your child will move up every year, so be sure to bring your entire family for a fun family experience for free!

Choose Your Preschool Class:

You can choose from a variety of our preschool classes to better accommodate your family’s schedule. Whether you want your child to attend 2 or 4 days/week at preschool (or even AM or PM) we have a class for you!

When should I call to register my child?

It’s never too early to call, so call as soon as you even think about registering, because our classes fill up ridiculously fast!

When does preschool start? Can I enroll mid-year?

We have a 10-month school year Sept.-May) and a 2-month summer camp (June-July). If we have spots available, you can enroll mid-year. Please call us to see if we have any spots available. CLOSED in August

How old does my child need to be to attend?

Preschool classes are for children who are ages 3-5 (and "independent almost-3-year-olds") by Sep. 1. Summer camp is for children who are ages 4-8 by June 1.

Does my child have to be potty trained?

Yes. Children should be toilet trained or actively working toward toilet independence. We allow a 60-day potty training transition period after enrollment. After 60 days, children are expected to attend without diapers or pull-ups and should have little to no accidents.

If a child continues to need regular toileting support after the transition period, a $90 monthly Toileting Support Fee will be added to tuition until the child is toilet independent.

Because we are a small, one-room Montessori classroom, children need to be able to use the restroom with minimal assistance so teachers can safely supervise the entire class. Please contact us if you are unsure whether your child is ready.

What is your teaching philosophy?

We follow a “whole child” philosophy where we work with you to improve your child’s Social, Emotional, Cognitive, Language, and Physical skills. Our curriculum is based on the NAEYC guidelines and features a balance of teacher-directed and child-initiated hands-on activities to accomplish these goals. We are a Montessori preschool so we use a Montessori Curriculum. Your child will learn to socialize, make friends, develop social and emotional skills, and be more than ready for Kindergarten!

Are there additional fees during the year?

No.  Your $300 registration fee covers all your child’s supplies and reserves a spot in our program.  Your child won’t pay anything to attend our field trips and activities. And your family can come for free too! Your child will also receive at no extra cost: a preschool shirt to wear on Spirit Day and a graduation portfolio!

What if my child has food restrictions?

No worries.  Several of our students have food intolerances or severe allergies.  We ask these families to bring in their own snacks, and we create nut-free classrooms any time a child’s allergy is severe enough to require an epi pen.

Is the registration fee refundable?

No.

How many students do you have per class?

We have the smallest class sizes in town so your child gets lots of 1-on-1 time. We only have 5 students per class.
